2022 IBS + KBIS Summary (Video)

Ryan attended the International Builders’ Show and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Orlando to look for emerging products and design solutions. He returned with so many photos and videos that we decided to host a discussion rather than trying to put them all into a blog post. Here’s a recording of the discussion…

A Range of Topics

The discussion recording starts with a review of the show in general, moves to about two dozen images from on KBIS and we spend the remainder of the time looking through products and services at IBS.

KBIS topics which we address include faucets, valves, refrigeration, mirrors, toilets, a recirculating shower, tankless hot water heaters and in-drawer charging.

IBIS topics which we address include window formats, window/door details, barn doors, durable exterior doors, bumperless hinge stops, deck railings, continuous insulation, exterior cladding, exterior fireplaces, roof-integrated solar panel systems, foundation drains, energy-efficient wall framing solutions, translucent solar panel systems, energy control + monitoring systems, wireless device charging, gas lamps, air purification, concrete forms, modular concrete panel homes, plastic construction blocks, 3D-printed homes, modular mono-stringer stairs, the largest umbrella we’ve ever seen, an in-home package delivery door and more!

About the Shows

The National Association of Home Builders held the 2022 International Builders Show in February at the Orlando Convention Center.

For years, the International Builders Show (IBS) has been held in conjunction with the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) presented by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. IBS is among the world’s largest annual expos featuring products and services so it’s a excellent opportunity to visit a world-class collection of vendors to discuss what they have to offer.

The shows run three days during which there are also education sessions. It takes three days to cover the hundreds of thousands of square feet of the expo floor and speak with the vendors so Ryan only attended for the expo. The location of the shows alternates from Orlando to Las Vegas. That makes some sense when you consider the scale of the shows - they need so much space (expo, classrooms and hotel rooms) that they’re limited as to where they can host the shows.

The image above was taken in the Moen booth at KBIS. Many of the vendors set up displays that allow you to try the products… even plumbing fixtures. These faucets flow water into the stones. In our discussion, we review the plumbing fixtures and controls we found notable.

The image above is the Savant booth which featured electrical system controls to give you the flexibility to manage the electrical loads in your home through an app on a phone or tablet. In our discussion, we review some of the electrical tech that we found notable.

The image above is the James Hardie booth. It’s helpful to see products like the large-scale panels that many vendors are producing in response to the popularity of more modern finishes in single- and multi-family projects. In our discussion, we take a closer look at some of these products and talk about why it’s important to see them in person.

In Conclusion

We hope you enjoy this meandering trip through the shows and the insight we provide. Leave a comment below if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks!
